What’s Happening in Etobicoke This Spring

 In Uncategorized

Winter has brought her full force this year, it seems! Many students have been blissfully enjoying snow days, while the rest of us are stuck working from home or trying to find the safest way to commute to work. Throughout all this madness, please make time for yourself. Our amazing community is full of activities that will keep everyone entertained (and warm!) in this non-existent spring we’re having. Here are just a few suggestions of what you could be doing to unwind this season.

The Breadth of Distance at North Space Gallery – Humber College North Campus

This is a great event for all ages, and best of all it’s free! Come experience between 10:00AM – 4:00 PM on Thursday, February 10th how seven artists evolve due to where they are located in the world, the passage of time, and cultural perspectives. Here, you can look at how grief is experienced over time and different countries, as well as care, longing, and resilience. This exhibit is a wonderful way to understand how our relationship to our environment and our beliefs shape who we are and who we progress as a society.

Beer. Diversity. Tavern Night at Montgomery’s Inn

Have you wanted to learn more about the beer industry but didn’t want to scour the internet for information? Perhaps you want to start your own microbrewery? On February 22 between 7:00 – 10:00 PM, come to this legendary 1840s barroom where craft beer expert Ren Navarro will discuss diversity in Canada’s beer industry. You must be 19 years or older to attend this event. Tickets are $35 + tax, and you must purchase the tickets ahead of time. A cash bar will be available.

Coldest Night Of The Year at Church on the Queensway

The Coldest Night of the Year is a special and important walk that occurs across all of Canada on February 23. Etobicoke’s chapter is a fun, family-friendly one where the neighbourhood will raise funds for charities that serve the hungry, homeless and hurting people in our area. The walk is between 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Tickets are $25.00 as of now, but hurry! The price will increase to $40 on February 18th.

Trillium Health Partners Foundation 7th Annual Laugh Out Loud Gala

On February 23rd at the Toronto Congress Centre will host the Laugh Out Loud (LOL) Gala – one of the premiere comedy nights in the GTA! Prepare for delightful acts from all sorts of talents, including the esteemed Wayne Brady! Tickets are $600 each, and the show begins at 6:00 PM.

Our Sacred Planet Art Exhibition by William Brisland

The Assembly Hall in Colonel Samuel Smith Park will be featuring a beautiful art exhibition that features watercolour scenes of our nation’s stunning maritime region, the American East Coast as well as the historic county of Fife, Scotland. The exhibit can be viewed for free at any time during the month, but its opening reception will be on February 28th between 6:00-8:00 pm. Light refreshments will be served.

I hope the flurries won’t keep you from exploring our beautiful neighbourhood too much! As you can see, there’s plenty to do and see, and many of them are very easy on your wallet. I hope to see you at some of these events. Happy spring!
